P90X Classic Day 17 – Arms and Shoulders – Ab Ripper X
So it was merely 2 days ago I felt very disappointed with my results for Chest and Back. Today, it was arms and shoulders and I felt great with my results. I felt stronger, I felt the “pump” much more in my arms today, especially my forearms. I thought my skin was going to rip right off it felt so tight. I was able to manage 20lb dumbbells on many things and I made a 100% improvement on my Lying Down Tricep Extensions.
I worked out in the evening for this session because I was exhausted this morning, so I am not sure what % my performance was enhanced by working out later in the day versus first thing. My gut tells me I would “not” have been as energized at 6:30am.
I also tried something a little different for nutrition. Instead of gatorade powder (it contains dextrose, the premixed stuff doesn’t), I added gatorade powder + whey for my intra-workout drink. I knew I would be lifting heavy so I wanted to feed my body some protein right away. It “may” have added something to my workout..but not sure.
I definitely made progress in all areas, especially the chair dips and various curls.

I have kind of stopped writing all my nutrition down. I keep forgetting, or I am busy..its becoming a hassle, but I am still eating relatively healthy. I might be a little high on the carb side, but that is ok as carbs = energy for more working out…right!
I still keep forgetting to take my fat%. Hell, before we know it I will be 10% and not need to worry
Ab Ripper X
Ab Ripper went well today. I got through many more reps of most of the sessions. Even the Mason twists..I got through 20 WITH my feet raised and not on the floor. Big win for me
I hate how much I feel the tension in my legs during the hip raises.
I am NOT looking forward to waking up early for Yoga X…ugh.

Well done, man!
I was looking at your stats and I am curious about your tricep work. I notice that you’re using 10lbs on the tri extensions, yet you’re able to pump out 25 dips.
I bet you could easily rock out more weight on those extensions if you’re only shooting for 8 reps.
Keep up the good times, Bryan. Do your best….and what?

forget the rest
Nathan, to keep a long story short, I had injured my right shoulder/neck/arm somehow like 4 months ago. I did some pullups and next thing I know I felt a “pinch” behind my right shoulder blade. I went through a lot of pain for a solid month..I think a nerve was pinched or something, but it sucked…and I believe my right arm and right pec went through some muscle atrophy, I lost a lot of tone and strength.
Case in point, pre-injury I could do 5 pullups and 20 pushups. 3 weeks post injury I couldn’t do 1 pushup. Not one.
My right arm had literally NO power, even though the pain was subsiding. I started seeing a chiropractor and we started getting me on the right track, but my right arm basically has had to get rebuilt up in muscle. If I flex my triceps (or I think its the triceps) my right one is a fair amount smaller/flatter then my left.
When I did the tri extensions the first time, my left arm I knew could have done 10 lbs probably 10 times, but my right arm was literally shaking at 4 or 5. The 2nd time it was similar, but last night I was able to get myself beyond 10 with the right arm.
I could probably try 15 pounds 8 times next time, though next week is recovery week.
Why I could do 25 dips, but struggle with 10lbs on tri extensions is beyond me. Maybe the muscles I am using for dips aren’t the exact same ones. No clue.
anyways, that is the story behind that. That right arm being weaker because of the injury is why I struggle with pullups right now too.

All that sounds like a challenge to me.
It’s like your body is daring you to do better. You have the perfect platform for growth!
Supreme kudos for not letting this stuff get you down.
Reminds me of Batman Begins:
“Why do we fall down, sir? So we can learn to pick ourselves up!”
I think the dips work the triceps pretty well, but there’s also some chest involved, so maybe they are easier on your tris in that sense. It’s all moot, though. Especially knowing where you’re coming from, you’re rockin it out man!

Those are some nice numbers you have on the board! WTG!
