P90X Classic Day 31 – Back and Biceps – Ab Ripper X
Wow, what a nice workout. Every time I have to do anything with my arms…I just keep realizing how weak my upper body truly is..but I do feel like I am getting stronger.
I don’t really feel, honestly, that recovery week helped me get stronger though. Maybe its not supposed to after only 3 weeks. Maybe Week 8, the 2nd recovery week, will.
So far all the sessions in Week 5 have kicked my butt in terms of muscle soreness. My legs are really feeling it after plyometrics yesterday.
The good news about Back and Biceps…I got a REALLY good arm pump today. At one point…I thought my forearms would explode…they were just so tight.
I also introduced an alternative to pullups. As previously mentioned…I keep mangling my neck from time to time when attempting pullups. Its the exact thing that sidelined me for 3 months a while ago. I have a cheap little weight bench ($50 off craigs list
), but it came with a lateral pulldown bar that I can attach weights to.
Tonight, I slapped on 70lbs worth of weights and used that as my first step to strengthening my back. See, up until tonight..I have done my pullups..but either I was straining to hard to get 1, maybe 2..but even with my feet on a chair..I never felt like I gave it a good workout. I felt like I was all arms, no back.
Well, with the pulldown machine, I can specifically focus on my back doing the work. I was able to pull down on average the various “pullups” about 10-12 times using 70 lbs. Next time for any pullup exercises.
My question to you all is…do I want to still focus on 8-10, or do I want to do more and more? Do I increase the weight next time and focus on 8-10 reps?
I expect my back to be feeling it tomorrow. Overall, I am just very happy with this workout. The final sets of curls were ROUGH. I used a mixture of 20lbs and 15 lbs throughout all the various types…but near the end, I did 1 set with 15lbs…and the final 3 sets had to be done with 10lbs LOL. Ugh.
Ab Ripper
Again, like mentioned earlier…I felt like Ab Ripper X didn’t go as smooth as I expected after recovery week. Parts I did well and felt stronger…other parts I was like “eh, this is rough”. I missed doing the Ab Ripper X on Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps day.
Do your best, and forget the rest..right.

The recovery week is supposed to rest those inflamed muscles and prepare them for more EXPLOSION in the next phase. Just when your muscles think the pain and suffering is over…BOOM! its time for round two and your muscles are shocked into building.
